TheCarl Walther GmbH, headquartered in Ulmund, Arnsberg, is one of the best-known manufacturers of firearms. Today, the name Walther and its trademark—the curved “Walther bow”—are primarily associated with rifles and pistols for sport shooting (airguns/small-caliber) and self-loading pistols for law enforcement use. In 1929, Walther introduced the Walther PP “police pistol”—which remains popular to this day—as the first mass-produced pistol with a single-action trigger; this was followed in 1931 by the Walther PPK “police pistol, criminal model,” which became world-famous (not least thanks to James Bond). Both models revolutionized firearms manufacturing and gained worldwide popularity. During the interwar period, Walther in Zella-Mehlis developed additional firearms, some of which were groundbreaking.
