O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc. (Mossberg) is a U.S. manufacturer of small arms based in Springfield, Massachusetts.
O.F. Mossberg & Sons was founded in 1919 by the Swede Oscar Frederick Mossberg and his two sons, Harold and Iver, in New Haven, Connecticut. The first firearm they produced was the Mossberg Brownie, a four-shot single-action pistol in .22 caliber.
In the years that followed, the company produced another two dozen firearms, including bolt-action and multi-shot rifles. Oscar Mossberg died in 1937, and his sons took over the company. In 1941, Mossberg manufactured training rifles for the United States Army.
In 1961, the company introduced the Mossberg 500, a pump-action shotgun, which became Mossberg’s most successful product with over 10 million units produced.
To mark the company’s 100th anniversary, the Mossberg MC1sc (sc = sub-compact), a 9 mm self-loading pistol, was introduced.
