TheFederal Cartridge Companyis an American manufacturer of ammunition and firearms owned by Vista Outdoor. The company is headquartered inAnoka, about 34 kilometers northwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota. It employs approximately 1,000 people.

The Federal Cartridge Company was founded in 1916 by brothers Harry and Lewis Sherman as theFederal Cartridge and Bicycle Company. They began by producing ammunition and bicycles. A year later, the Sherman brothers reorganized the company, which from that point on operated under the nameFederal Cartridge Company. Due to internal problems, ineffective sales, and marketing issues, the brothers closed the company in 1920. Two years later, on April 27, 1922, Charles L. Horn took over as head of the Federal Cartridge Company.
