Colt

Colt Defense LLC, originally known as Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company, is an American firearms manufacturer headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut. The company primarily manufactures assault rifles, pistols—including the M1911—and revolvers.

In 2002, Colt was divided into Colt Defense, Law Enforcement, Private Security/Defense, and Colt’s Manufacturing Company (civilian market). Colt’s Manufacturing Company then became part of New Colt Holding Corporation. In 2013, Colt Defense acquired New Colt Holding Corporation. This reunited the development, manufacture, and distribution of firearms under the Colt name for all market segments under one roof. The “Law Enforcement” segment offers firearms specifically for law enforcement agencies. “Military” offers weapon systems for the military, such as the M4 assault rifle or the M45A1 self-loading pistol. In June 2015, bankruptcy proceedings were initiated for Colt Defense LLC after a debt could not be settled. In February/May 2021, the Czech firearms manufacturer Česká zbrojovka Group (CZ) acquired Colt Holding, along with Colt’s Manufacturing Company and a subsidiary in Canada.
