The APC 9 was developed and launched in 2011. B&T believed that the 9 mm would remain the caliber of choice for several more decades. When designing a new submachine gun, it was essential to ensure that the weapon would be modular and easy to manufacture from the outset.

Modularity was important because the weapon could be configured for specific tasks using different stocks, upper receivers, and lower receivers.

User ergonomics were designed to be excellent and as ambidextrous as possible. It is little known that one of the project’s developers is an active marksman and left-handed. The MP9 magazine was used because it is a proven design. The quality was intended to be very high, as one would expect from a Swiss product.

The APC 9 features all the modern capabilities one would expect from an SMG or PCC. These features are so highly valued that the APC9K was adopted by the U.S. Army as a next-generation submachine gun, known as the “Subcompact Weapon.”

Some of these features include the NATO Accessory Rail (NAR), which is milled along the entire top of the receiver; 8 different stock configurations; an ambidextrous, non-rotating, folding loading handle; various barrel lengths; and even a version with an integrated silencer.

The lower receiver can also be used with magazines that are interchangeable with the Glock, SIG 320, Walther P99, and HK SFP9 pistols. This ingenious feature saves the user both money and weight. It makes the firearm interoperable. To serve international customers, we have also developed the APC in the following calibers: APC 10, APC 40, APC 45.
