In 2022, in a historic announcement, the U.S. Army officially selected the SIG SAUER MCX-SPEAR as the XM7 service rifle. Combined with groundbreaking 6.8x51 hybrid ammunition, the MCX-SPEAR has become the benchmark by which a rifle’s capabilities are measured.

With a muzzle velocity of over 3,000 FPS using a 113gr bullet fired from a 16-inch barrel, the MCX-SPEAR rifle achieves the high performance sought by the Army while exceeding durability requirements. With the MCX-SPEAR rifle in 6.8x51 caliber and a family of hybrid ammunition from SIG SAUER, this technology will now be available for the first time on the U.S. civilian market. The MCX-SPEAR platform also offers a new level of modularity, allowing for caliber conversion between 6.8x51, 7.62x51, and 6.5 Creedmoor, as well as barrel lengths of 13" or 16". In addition, the MCX-SPEAR features a side loading handle, a rear loading handle, ambidextrous controls, a 2-stage Match-Duo trigger, and a free-floating M-LOK™ handguard.
