ALG Defense El Jefe | 16" - 5.56 mm

The ALG Defense El Jefe rifle was designed for shooters looking for a mil-spec-grade rifle at a reasonable price. El Jefe is a complete rifle system that comes with a sling and a Warner & Swasey red dot sight.

A high-quality rifle starts with a high-quality receiver set. El Jefe’s upper and lower receivers are machined from domestically produced 7075 aluminum billets. The billets are heated to nearly 1,000°F and then forged into the rough outer shape of the upper or lower receiver using a 1,100-metric-ton forging press.

The forged blanks are then machined on a horizontal CNC machining center, where most of the aluminum is removed to produce a sturdy yet lightweight part. After polishing and smoothing, the receivers are hard-anodized to Mil-Spec Type 3 and finished with a matte black coating.

The El Jefe’s handguard is the well-known ALG V3X, featuring a slim, round profile and M-LOK slots. The V3X uses the large-diameter ALG Rock-Solid barrel nut for ultimate rigidity and resistance to rough handling.

A comfortable and ergonomic SOPMOD stock from B5 Systems is connected to a 7075-T6 aluminum Mil-Spec buffer tube with six positions. A braided Super 42 wire buffer spring from Geissele surrounds an H1 buffer, ensuring reliable operation even with low-power ammunition and steel cases.

The reciprocating bolt carrier group is manufactured by Geissele Automatics from Mil-Spec 8620, 4140, 4130, and Carpenter 158 steel, with the inner diameter of the carrier and the gas key hard-chromed. All parts of the BCG, with the exception of the chromed firing pin, are coated with manganese phosphate.

Of course, the El Jefe features the renowned ALG Defense Advanced Combat Trigger. The ACT is used in countless police rifles, including the new U.S. Border Patrol rifle, and sets the bar high for a smooth, stick-free combat trigger.

The El Jefe’s barrel, made from MIL-B-11595E chrome-molybdenum steel, is rifled and chrome-plated. The 5.56 NATO chamber is compatible with both .223 Remington and military 5.56 mm ammunition. Hard chrome plating is the most effective method for producing a true combat barrel for heavy-duty use. Chrome is not only corrosion- and wear-resistant but also resistant to fouling and the erosive effects of hot powder gases. The owner of an El Jefe barrel receives a durable barrel whose accuracy is maintained even after firing over 1,000 rounds.

This barrel comes with a Geissele 17-4 PH stainless steel gas block featuring a Geissele-exclusive extended medium-length gas tube for smoother firing and more controllable recoil. An A2 muzzle brake protects the muzzle crown. Versions of the El Jefe will be available starting in fall 2023 with muzzle devices compatible with suppressors.

To complete the rifle system, the El Jefe comes with an M4 carbine Mil-Spec web sling and a pair of steel QD swivels. The cherry on top is the U.S.-developed Warner & Swasey 3MOA red dot sight with integrated backup iron sights, eliminating the need for a separate BUIS setup. The integrated W&S iron sights are immediately available in an emergency, without having to remove the red dot sight or flip anything over or move it out of the way. A sharp and clear red dot confirms the quality of this sight as soon as the shooter locks onto their target. A sturdy scope mount with oversized cross bolts ensures that zero remains stable even during the inevitable bumps and drops a service rifle will endure. The industry-standard 1.54" red dot above the bore center provides the best alignment with the shooter’s eye while maintaining the cheek weld.
