The APC223 PRO is a self-loading rifle chambered in .223 Rem. The rifle features an indirect gas-operated system with a short-stroke gas piston: A gas port near the muzzle briefly directs the propellant gases behind the bullet via the gas piston onto the bolt carrier, causing it to move backward. After the bullet is fired, the recoiling bolt carrier unlocks the bolt head through a rotational movement and pulls it along. As the bolt head and carrier move backward together, the empty case is extracted and ejected, the hammer is cocked, and the recoil spring is compressed. At the end of the recoil stroke, a recoil buffer slows the bolt carrier before the recoil spring accelerates it forward again. As the bolt head and carrier move forward together, they pick up a new cartridge from the magazine and feed it into the chamber. At the end of this cycle, the firearm is locked, loaded, and cocked. All operating elements—such as the bolt catch, magazine release, fire selector, and loading handle—are designed to be operated from either side. The loading handle is not rotating.
