The founding of the Rottweil gunpowder factory on the Neckar River dates back to the 15th century. The brand name thus refers to the former production facility for shotgun shells in the town of the same name. The name Rottweil gained fame through the “Waidmannsheil rot” shotgun shells and, from 1921 to the present day, through the legendary “black Waidmannsheil” with a cardboard casing.
