TheC. G. Haenel GmbHis a German arms manufacturer headquartered in Suhl.

In 1840, Carl Gottlieb Haenel founded the company’s predecessor, theC. G. Haenel Waffen- u. Fahrradfabrik Suhl. With the Maschinenkarabiner 42(H)—developed under Hugo Schmeisser—this company established the category of assault rifles, which gained widespread adoption with the introduction of the Sturmgewehr 44. In 1945, under Soviet occupation, C. G. Haenel was dissolved as an independent company and incorporated into the state-owned enterpriseVEB “Ernst Thälmann” Vehicle and Hunting Weapons Factory.

In 2008, C. G. Haenel was reestablished, equipped with the license and trademark rights of its historic predecessor company.

Through the Merkel Group—which is part of the Arab arms manufacturer Caracal International—the company is indirectly owned by the state-owned EDGE Group of the United Arab Emirates.
